Savor the Delicate Flavors of Tofu at Shoraian in Arashiyama, Kyoto

Shoraian is a renowned tofu restaurant located in the Arashiyama district of Kyoto, Japan. The restaurant is situated right along the banks of the Oi River and is nestled in a beautiful location and serene atmosphere on top of a little hill. Shoraian is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, and has gained a reputation for serving some of the best tofu dishes in Kyoto. If you are interested in going, be sure to make a reservation by calling them (or reserving on their website) - it is a popular spot and fills up quickly!

The restaurant is run by a family of tofu makers who use traditional methods to create their dishes. They use locally sourced ingredients, including soybeans and spring water from the nearby mountains, to create a variety of tofu-based dishes. The restaurant's signature dish is yudofu, which is a simple dish of boiled tofu served with a light dipping sauce. The tofu at Shoraian is so soft and delicate that it practically melts in your mouth.

Yudofu

In addition to yudofu, Shoraian also offers a variety of other tofu dishes, as well as seasonal dishes that incorporate local ingredients. Everything is served kaiseki style (set meals). The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, with the outdoor seating offering stunning views of the river and surrounding mountains.

Again, reservations are highly recommended, as the restaurant is quite popular and can fill up quickly. Shoraian is open for lunch and dinner, and prices are relatively expensive compared to other restaurants in Kyoto. However, the quality of the food and the beautiful setting make it well worth the price.

To get to the restaurant, we took a walk from the river-side for about 10 minutes but if you are coming from Arashiyama Station, it is 20 minutes on foot.
